Appreciation Letter 12-2008
Members of the Board of Directors
Cardinal Yu Pin Foundation
Dear Members of the Board,
During this holiday season, the family members of the residents at Cardinal Yu Pin Manor would like to express our sincerest appreciation and to wish a very Merry Christmas to the members of the Board of Directors. First of all, we would like to thank the Board and the Founders of Cardinal Yu Pin Manor for the decision to create this Chinese Assisted Living Facility in Norwalk, California. This facility is serving the needs of many Chinese American families by providing wonderful care for our elderly parents or relatives in their golden years. Finally, we would like to thank the Board for making the wise decision to invite Teresa Hsu to be the head of the Manor.
Through countless contacts with Teresa during the past months, we have found her to be an extremely dedicated and caring caregiver, an efficient and effective administrator, and a person we as family members and residents trust and respect immensely. We find that she is very knowledgeable about both the elderly and health care. She treats every resident as an individual and pays close attention to each person’s special needs. She has set high standards of care for the residents and is an excellent role model for her staff. Teresa epitomizes the spirit of self sacrifice, understanding, kindness, and commitment that we believe Cardinal Yu Pin would have been very proud of.
Running an assisted living facility is complex and time consuming and running it well is extremely difficult. Most of us have visited many assisted living facilities in the LA area as well as in different parts of the US prior to coming to the Manor and we are fully aware of the many kinds of problems that can arise in running such facilities. Therefore, we were pleasantly surprised and quite reassured when we observed on many occasions how Teresa understood the needs of the residents and proactively prevented potential problems or effectively resolved problems before they developed further. The residents and the Manor benefited tremendously as a result.
Recently, Teresa and her team set up activities and holiday celebrations for the residents that created a cheerful atmosphere. The old folks (many in their 90’s) enjoyed themselves. They had a lot of fun at the Hawaiian Luau, the Autumn Moon Festival, the Halloween party, and the Thanksgiving dinner. These uplifting events are good for the residents’ spirits and we truly appreciate it.
Teresa is constantly looking at ways to improve the running of the Manor. We sincerely hope that the Board continues to empower and support Teresa to do whatever is best for the residents at the Manor. We as family members of the residents will also support Teresa in all her endeavors and will be there to do everything to help. We can not imagine what Yu-Pin manor will be like without her.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and looking forward to a wonderful New Year!
Sincerely yours,
Family member representatives: Jane Liu, Nancy Tai, Mable Shih, Drue Hsia, YuanCheng Hsu, Dora Lou

I frequent Yu-Pin Manor to visit my God-mother and many of the elderly residents that's become close 2nd aunts to me. I'm an executive at a leading company in the US and can relate the hurdles and challenges that Teresa encounters. One major difference is the level of commitment and personal dedidication on caring for the elderly and operating within a non-profit organization. From my years of observations, Teresa is not just talk, but a person that acts with strong convictions and core values on the overall well being and health of its residents and extended families.
ReplyDeleteI'm deeply distrought with her recent termination from Yu-Pin Manor, and every so more concerned from the regression of care from the influx of life threaning incidents at Yu-Pin since Teresa departure. More concerningly, her replacement does not appear resourceful nor adequate knowledgable to manage the operations and crisis that have developed due to the lack of new management oversight (since no major new staff has been appointed or removed since Teresa tenure).
Disappointed.
